Flame treatment systems from Venjakob

Flame treatment to activate the workpiece surface

The feel of plastic workpieces can be optimized significantly before coating through use of flame treatment with a gas burner. This process is not a heat treatment. Instead it makes targeted use of the chemical effect of the gas flame. What does that mean in concrete terms?

The functional principle of flame treatment

A gas flame operated with significant excess oxygen is applied directly to the surface for a short period.  This breaks molecular bonds in the surface of the substrate that is about to undergo coating and at the same time binds active ions – mainly OH and COOH groups – in the flame. The originally non-polar material now contains polar groups that measurably increase the surface energy of the treated substrate and permit reliable bonding of printing inks, coatings, adhesives, etc.
