Solutions for almost infinite types of surface treatment
A typical work order for us is sometimes: "Make that blue." That - that can be just about anything. A cup. A piece of furniture. A dashboard in your favorite car. Something in the spaceship you're taking to the moon next week. That - it can be made of metals, steel, wood, plastics, whatever. And what ultimately makes it blue or red or green is a certain color made up of certain components that are particularly suited to a certain surface. Does that sound a little confusing when you read it? Yet these are just some of the factors that we at Venjakob deal with day in, day out when we develop individual system concepts for our customers. Surface treatment is right at the top of our list of keywords. After all, it's never just about the coating. It is always about perfectly coordinating all factors so that what is to become blue firstly becomes blue and secondly stays blue. And not just once, but many times. Always in the same flawless quality. Our task is to find a solution for these almost infinite types of surface treatment time and time again. You can find out how we do this here.
Metals, steel, plastics, wood and glass etc. each require a special surface technique
As a general rule, anyone who has to coat a surface must first clean it. In concrete terms, this means choosing the appropriate surface technology depending on the material, the nature of the surface and the quality and function of the coating. This can be a specific cleaning process, for example with dry ice, or a degreasing or dust removal process. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. While metals and steel sometimes need to be degreased before coating, abrasive processes are often used for wood - sanding, for example. Then again, there are combinations: For example, we also equip a dedusting unit with brushes if required. In other words: technologies, methods and materials can vary from time to time for different surface treatments. Depending on the industry. What one customer absolutely needs is merely an add-on for another. Some sectors need the full program, others think they can do without it completely. And quite a few who believed this later came to us to have their process retrofitted by us. We do, we can, but the earlier we are involved in a project, the less retrofitting is required later on. As a rule, nothing at all.
Different types of surface treatment
At Venjakob, we differentiate between pre-treatments such as
- Cleaning processes using dry ice blasting, ionization and dust removal, degreasing or aqueous, alkaline neutral cleaning agents
- Processes for activation by flame treatment, plasma or flame silicatization,
- abrasive processes by brushing, grinding, smoothing or blasting.
The actual treatment of the surface includes the various coatings and industrial finishing or even an adhesive application. In other words, applications such as
- Spraying with 1K, 2K and water-soluble or UV-curing paints,
- Flood for impregnations, glazes or primers,
- Dipping of metals or steel parts,
- Rolling and casting.
Finally, drying is applied. Here, too, there is not just one technology available. For example, drying with an
- Infrared drying for the gentle drying of dispersions, water-based and solvent-based paints,
- UV lamps for UV-curing lacquers or adhesives.
What is the benefit of surface treatment?
Safety. As a rule, every coating serves a specific function, for example to protect the surface. In the case of metals, it is often about corrosion resistance. But another reason is also the visual appearance, the aesthetic appearance. Sometimes - for example with a glaze - the coating also serves as decoration. Properties such as conductivity, wettability, friction and insulation also play a role, depending on the materials involved and the intended use of the products. The coatings and surface treatments vary from application to application, from industry to industry and from market to market. And, of course, from company to company. Because what one customer wants to have solved in this way is unthinkable for another. Not for us. At Venjakob, we think in every direction. And that is precisely the reason why we can offer our customers the best possible process for them. Because we sometimes open up completely new spaces for them. And this brings us to a topic that, on the face of it, has nothing to do with surface treatment. But it does: the spatial dimension.
Leaving and opening up space for the best possible surface treatment
If you have followed us this far, you will have noticed that there is no such thing as a single coating system. The same applies to processes. There is no such thing as one process. It has to be developed from the task, from the requirements. And often it even has to be adapted to the spatial conditions. For example, one company already has a coating system and now needs a new cleaning system or an upgrade of the existing system. A drying system, for example. There is not always enough space for this. There is not always a green field on which to build the best of all possible coating worlds. We are also prepared for these cases. We are not saying that everything is possible. But we make many things possible. Because we know what companies need, because we understand how they think, because in the almost sixty years of our existence we have gained unique experience in solving problems that can always arise.
Finally: Let's talk - about surface treatment
Surface treatment is a complex topic that ensures the quality of products in countless applications in manufacturing and production in almost every industry. The materials, methods and technologies of all possible coatings need to be perfectly coordinated and combined in a single process. This can only succeed with a partner who has the necessary experience to plan, design and implement such a process. Trust is a decisive factor. But - you guessed it - control is even better. This is precisely why we at Venjakob have our technical center. This is not only where we test all the components of the systems we design for our customers. We also offer our customers the opportunity to come and see for themselves on site that what they will later be using industrially in production is working perfectly. Incidentally, we maintain such a technical center not only at our headquarters in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, but also at our US subsidiary Nutro. It is well received on both sides of the ocean. Just come and visit us - and see for yourself. Perhaps we can also take this opportunity to talk about surface treatment.
We are happy to advise you
We develop solutions that optimize processes and improve results - reliably, efficiently and precisely tailored to your system. We will be happy to advise you personally on individual solutions for all aspects of your surface treatment.
