Regenerative thermal oxidizers

This method of residue-free removal of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from exhaust air really comes into its own in complex applications such as painting and coating processes and a variety of printing processes. The regenerative thermal oxidizers provided by our Venjakob Umwelttechnik company have established themselves as state-of-the-art solutions for a whole host of end customers, from medium-sized companies to global players, as well as OEMs.

A variety of RTO designs offer benefits, especially when space is limited

The regenerative thermal oxidizers provided by our Venjakob Umwelttechnik company are available as the traditional vertical model as well as in a horizontal design with a significantly reduced height. We also offer compact system solutions for smaller volumes of air that can be fully preassembled at the factory if desired (plug and play). A model is available with separate heat exchanger chambers for a high concentration of pollutants.

How regenerative thermal oxidizers work

The polluted exhaust air is alternately guided through three chambers equipped with ceramic thermal energy storage elements. The polluted air is preheated to just below the required oxidation temperature of over 800°C inside the inlet chamber. The auxiliary burner in the incineration chamber, which is positioned centrally above the chambers, thus requires very little additional fuel. In many cases, the energy content of the air pollutants that need to be removed is alone sufficient to achieve autothermal operation without any additional fuel. Now purified, the exhaust air flows through the outlet chambers and transfers most of the heat to the ceramic thermal energy storage elements.

Applications for regenerative thermal oxidizers

As a result of continuous development, this type of system can now be used for most processes that produce exhaust air containing solvent or odors.

Typical applications can be found in these industry segments:

  • Painting
  • Paint production
  • Packaging printing
  • Web offset printing
  • The manufacture of friction pads
  • Chemical industry
  • Pharma industry
  • Biogas upgrading
  • The manufacture of lubricants
  • Coatings for laminate papers and the like
  • The manufacture of solar modules
  • Odor control in the food/luxury product industry
  • Flavor production

These are the advantages of using our RTO´s

Our regenerative thermal oxidizers boast low primary energy requirements and thus minimal CO2 emissions. Flameless gas injection can be used to reduce natural gas consumption in non-autothermal operation.

Lots of optional equipment details allow you to tailor systems to many different requirements such as:

  • Burnout
  • Material selection for acid-forming and/or humid exhaust air
  • Hot-gas removal for operation above autothermal
  • Use of adapted ceramic thermal energy storage elements or a combination of different elements in a single system

For larger volumes of air, you can also opt for a five-chamber system, which allows you to purify larger exhaust air flows in a comparably compact system.
